Will CT’s Govorner Rell follow through?

Governor Rell’s promise to trim the State budget rather than raise taxes was a long overdue and I applaud her new found fiscal conservatism.
However, from her response regarding UCONN’s plan to discuss a tuition increase, one cannot help but speculate whether she is actually prepared to fight for her proposed budget. Rell told UCONN officials that the budget hasn’t been approved and the legislature will likely make changes to her proposal, plus she is unsure of how much money the State will receive from the so called “federal stimulus package” and it is premature to consider a tuition increase. Fair enough, however the tone of her reply also suggests she doesn’t expect UCONN will actually experience any cuts nor does she expect the legislature to adopt much of her budget proposal or will she use her position and veto power to press them for fiscal responsibility, should they choose to continue taxing and spending. What she could and should have said was, the time for fiscal responsibility has arrived and that she would use every method in her power to rein in past spending excesses. Instead she is looking to institute more “stealth” taxes and raise the fee for every license and permit the state grants. According to Kiplinger Magazine, of the top 100 state colleges 81 have a lower tuition cost than UCONN and 49 of those have the same or lower student to teacher ratio, Rell spokesman Richard Harris said “There is room in UCONN’s budget to absorb the (proposed) cuts.” Is Governor Rell actually planning on cutting spending or just posturing? Time will tell but don’t hold your breath.

Connecticut Budget Woes

It’s about time the Governor’s office has finally realized that state spending and taxes are, and have been, out of control and has decided to look at the spending side of the budget. We should expect our legislature to champion spending cuts, union concessions, greatly reduced and affordable social programs and a reversal of the anti-business climate they have created. In any plan to address the budget crisis we simply cannot afford to do otherwise.

While it is too late to save the many thousands of skilled and high paying industrial jobs that have left the State due to high taxes, an oppressive business climate and too much regulation, I applaud Governor Rell’s recent epiphany. I anxiously await some real movement to scale down the government and would especially like to address the exorbitant salaries and benefits paid to State workers and the trend over the years to keep sweetening the pot with benefits unheard of in private industry.

As an example – I retired early, after 30 years of service, from a well-known International Company that began in Connecticut in 1866. Corporate headquarters remained in Connecticut even after being acquired by a larger corporation in 1968. Business considerations including our state business climate as well as the posture of the company’s local labor union led to the 2003 sale of the company and recent abandonment of Connecticut operations. The effects of Connecticut’s business climate and union considerations aside, I do not, and did not expect to, receive a living income from my former employer on retirement nor do I believe one is in order for our retiring state workers.

It is past time to renegotiate state union worker’s contracts and demand concessions to bring their compensation back to reality. Programs such as heart and hypertension, full retirement and gold plated medical benefits after ten years must be eliminated. Sick day policies and other special compensations must also be revisited and reduced or eliminated.

As taxpayers and voters we should expect no less.

Hope vs. Purpose

Washington Irving said: “Great minds have purpose; little minds have wishes (read hope).Little minds are subdued by misfortunes; great minds rise above them.”

Conservatives have a purpose rooted in the freedom to pursue personal achievement; the liberals wish and hope for some elusive utopia feeding off misfortune and a subdued public looking for a leader.

The Obamas are educating their children in private schools, while insisting in public education for those who cannot afford a private education, by opposing vouchers. The same labor unions that supported his candidacy are in the forefront of maintaining an education system that is indeed, failed, failed by the the left wing, their union coddling and their socialistic hopes. They brainwash our children into a political correctness and mindset that refuses to allow personal achievement, teaching them wish for a utopia where everyone is equal, except, of course, those who are in charge. The leaders being those who were taught purpose and personal achievement.

Our children have been taught to follow the leader and abandon any purpose. We must fight their brand of socialism with logic and purpose, and dump the PC garbage that is suffocating our youth.

Plan Ahead for ’10 & ’12!

“Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan.” Tom Landry

Our Goal is to foil their socialist agenda now, and unseat Obama and the “progressives, liberals, socialists”, both state and federal, in elections 2010 and 2012. What we need to focus on is a plan to achieve that end. The time to start is now, before they do so much damage to our constitution, freedoms and livelihoods that it would take generations to undo. Here is our plan so far, I will keep adding to this list, feel free to comment with your suggestion.

Write!

  • Let your views be known.
  • Write your representatives often.
  • Write your representatives PROACTIVELY not reactively. Let them know before legislation is introduced that we are watching and will not support any (insert liberal garbage) legislation or the legislators who back it.
  • Write your newspaper(s) letters to the editor column. Many papers have forms on their web-sites to submit a letter for publication, most others will accept e-mail. Read their submission policies carefully, as any excuse not to publish letters at odds with their view will be used. Note that many liberal rags accept few submissions that express conservative viewpoints, keep writing them anyway let them know you will not buy a paper that is biased.

Reply!

  • If you receive an unsatisfactory response let them know you will not accept it.

Remind!

  • Keep the pressure on, remind them often that (insert liberal garbage) is a vote deciding issue.

Educate!

  • Educate others about (insert liberal garbage).
  • Educate your self to intelligently counter any argument.
  • Be credible, get your facts first.

Feel no Fear!

  • The liberals are great for telling us what we should believe and how we should act, but they don’t practice what they preach. They call their own agendas and their opponents view the exact opposite of the truth. (such as the “Fairness Doctrine” and that we are the racists.)
  • Turn the tables and show how they or their view is actually (insert liberal BS).
  • Do not be silenced by fear of being called an (insert liberal BS).
  • Do not be afraid to speak your mind.

If we stick to this plan it will be much harder for them to ramrod their agenda and pass stealth legislation.

The clock is ticking!

Letter to CT Secratary of State

Dear Ms. Bysiewicz,

I appreciate your attendance and meeting you at today’s veteran’s day ceremonies at Botelle School in Norfolk. I’m sure you’re appreciative of our service to this country, both in times of peace and war, and not just the voting bloc we represent.

I was very disappointed that you had to leave as I have a deep concerning question regarding your address here and your recent stance to defeat the proposed constitutional convention, as was your position the last time it came up.

Your address made a strong point that the freedom to vote is one of the most important freedoms we veteran’s have fought for! Yet you came out strongly against Question No. 1 which would give the people of Connecticut an avenue to vote, either for or against thus far un-named initiatives. To me this is at complete odds with your position stated here today. Regretfully, many ELECTED officials whom recognize there is a safety in numbers and fear no repercussions at the polls share your position.

But how do explain your contradiction? Please don’t give me the line that it would be dominated by special interests that would take away voter’s rights! Do you honestly think everyone would believe that lie as the obvious majority did? Talking special interests, defeat was the aim of the following SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS;

Connecticut Education Association
National Education Association
American Federation of Teachers
Liberals Like Christ
American Civil Liberties Union of CT
CT Transadvocacy Coalition
CT National Organization for Women
NARAL Pro-Choice CT
CT Assoc. of Public School Superintendents
Love Makes a Family
Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders
Planned Parenthood of CT
Queers Without Borders
Trial Lawyers Association
Coalition for Reproductive Choice of CT

These groups have been denying voters rights and achieving favorable, yet unpopular, legislation and rulings using PAC monies to “buy” legislators, and Judges willing to violate the separation of power’s constraint to legislate from the bench! That your party is cahoots with these groups it is no surprise to me, however our so-called Republicans are equally guilty, as is Governor Rell who made little issue, and the republicans that remained silent.

I rightfully believe the above groups are afraid of losing ground or being denied by the voters should Question No. 1 have passed. I believe that Binding Arbitration should be eliminated and that public employees should be prohibited from unionizing and /or calling strikes in order to raid taxpayer’s pockets. I do not believe in homosexual marriage or abortion and I believe it is criminal to ignore federal law and offer sanctuary to illegal aliens. I do believe a true three strikes law will take career criminals off the street. However we voter’s were not allowed our say on any of these issues that directly affect how TAXPAYERS monies are spent, and thanks to the successful defeat of the proposed constitutional convention our voices will continue to be unheeded.

Give me ONE GOOD reason not to vote the lot of you out of office.

Question 1 and democracy fail

It is truly a sad day for Connecticut that the one way our electorate could affect course of several UNPOPULAR laws, or lack thereof, and rein in Judicial legislation by Activism, has been defeated. The call for a constitution convention has been rejected by the same voters that have been disaffected by Juducial fiat and unpopular legislation! They obviously did not understand that they were being hoodwinked by the misinformation, lies and intimidation of the very special interests that are shopping for Judges and “buying” legislators in order to bypass the voter! There is no check on their ability to get favorable legislation passed or Juducial decree mandated, and none is coming. Welcome to Conecticut, The Constitution State?

This is another win for the SPECIAL INTERESTS named in my previous post. With massive amounts of money they inundated us with lies and half truths along with a unhealthy dose of FEAR to defeat a call for a Constitutional Convention. People I’ve spoken with are telling me that they didn’t understand, they thought a yes vote would allow “special interests” to defeat popular laws and mandates! Special interests groups insinuating that they are not special interests groups but their opposition is? Baloney! We are ALL special interests in one form or another! It will be another 20 years before we have another opportunity to rein in Judicial Activism and send a message to our elected officials that WE THE PEOPLE are supposed to control our laws.

Satan is having a good laugh – on us!

Connecticut – Question 1 – What’s to fear?

It is no small wonder that activist judges and well heeled special interest groups are able to supercede the will of the voters in Connecticut. Witness the current political ads asking for a no vote on the proposed Constitutional Convention that are using fear in an attempt to defeat Question 1. The politics of fear is leading us ever closer to socialism and lest we awake one morning to find our  freedoms and self determination completely suppressed we must say enough is enough.

These ads would have us believe that a yes vote will allow evil and un-named “Special Interest Groups” to destroy our “voter’s rights”! How absurd is that premise and how ignorant do the real Special Interest Groups looking to further suppress the will of the voters think we are? When was the last time we voted on binding arbitration, a three strikes law, abortion on demand or homosexual marriage to name a few? A yes vote on Question 1 will only allow  bringing an initiative up for a vote before the people, a MAJORITY of Connecticut voters MUST approve any such initiative before becoming law. Please explain how that can destroy our voter’s rights.

Judges are supposed to uphold the law NOT make law, binding arbitration is bankrupting our cities and towns, giving groups like the CEA, and public employee unions salaries and perks unheard of in private industry. Taxes are out of control and it’s time that we voters have a voice in how our hard earned monies are spent. Connecticut has three times as many public employees per capita then the national average and the “public service” (an oxymoron to most of us) sector is still leading in job growth!

The following named groups are advocating a defeat of Question 1, a defeat that would continue to prevent voters from having a say in the way our laws are written and our government run. Are these NOT “Special Interests” , who are they kidding!

  • Connecticut Education Association
  • National Education Association American
  • Federation of Teachers
  • Liberals Like Christ
  • American Civil Liberties Union of CT
  • CT Transadvocacy Coalition
  • CT National Organization for Women
  • NARAL Pro-Choice CT
  • CT Assoc. of Public School Superintendents
  • Love Makes a Family
  • Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders
  • Planned Parenthood of CT
  • Queers Without Borders
  • Trial Lawyers Association
  • Coalition for Reproductive Choice of CT

As there is no compelling reason not to have a constitutional convention, could they be afraid of a yes vote, believing that a MAJORITY of Connecticut voters do not approve of their positions? For all we know they have the majority in their corner, but we can never know unless it comes to a popular vote.

We must not miss this opportunity to have OUR voices heard. Vote YES on question 1 and let the people decide if we are to be shepherds or sheep.
