Remedial Lesson Needed!

File under when will they ever learn – The Treasury Department just announced:

Chrysler’s financing arm has been “loaned” $1.5 Billion taxpayer’s dollars in addition to the $17.4 Billion “bailout” for Chrysler and GM.

The automaker announced that it will immediately use the money to “…….expand lending to car buyers with less than ideal credit”!

Believe it or not!

Private Sector New Jobs? Hardly!

President-elect Barack Obama well understands that if he calls government spending “investment” and bailouts “stimulus” he disguises the fact that our tax dollars are feeding an insatiable pig called big government.

In an announcement based on a report called “The Job Impact Of The American Recovery And Reinvestment Plan” Obama said his economic recovery plan would create or save three to four million new jobs, “nearly 90 percent of them in the private sector”. Part of his plan includes unspecified “Business investment incentives”, and he offered a few generalizations about where SOME of the private sector jobs would be created. Business investment incentives giving businesses sound reason to expand and add new and permanent jobs will hopefully be tax reform and deregulation that encourages rather than discourages growth. However, an incentive might be the Democratic holy grail of a single payer government health care system which would “relieve an employer” of that cost. Obama is not saying what these un-named incentives are, will the new jobs be created by private enterprise or jobs resulting from government spending disguised as investment incentives, only time will tell.

He did get specific regarding 1.5 million new jobs in certain areas. These jobs include 350,000 plus, permanent, new government employees (think of those gold plated benefits). The remaining 1 million plus new jobs will come from government spending huge sums of money on infrastructure, energy and health care and are destined to be temporary. Mr. Obama advocates spending money we don’t have to cause a temporary increase in employment and gain greater government control (read interference) over the “private sector”. The job estimates from that report are stated to have a “substantial margin of error”, according to Market Watch peak unemployment will only be reduced by 1%.

To get popular backing for this plan he promises an increase in food stamps and unemployment insurance, topping that off with more state welfare by “fiscal relief designed to alleviate cuts in healthcare, education and prevent increases in state and local taxes”. All this means more entitlements, more spending and more dependence on the Federal Government, all can be called socialism.

The Federal Government doesn’t “invest” with, or give state and local governments free money, it spends our taxes. Government has already spent our grandchildren’s taxes and is planning to spend even more, the ramifications of this deficit spending can only make matters worse. Foreign countries that hold a massive amount of our national debt are poised to stop buying more as inflation cuts into the real value. Our taxes will surely rise unless government adopts sound fiscal policies and reduces spending below revenue. Obama’s planned “investment” is not the way to a sound fiscal future, government’s allowing natural forces to take hold has been proven to nurture a robust economy. Unless government stops pandering to the anti-free market socialists and allow industry the freedom to prosper while letting mismanaged and non-competitive companies fail, our taxes will continue rise and inflation will spiral out of control. Government interference and blind adherence to mandated constraints on private enterprise will continue to erode our competitive edge, which in turn will continue to reduce employment and ultimately lower the taxes collected, leaving the individual taxpayer to foot the bill.

“Government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have” Gerald Ford

What Change?

What are we to do regarding the free pass from the main stream media that Barack Obama continues to enjoy?  Short of continuing to press our valid points regarding his associations, concerns about his leftist agenda, (lack of) record and criticism of his policies and appointments, we may well have to wait until proverbial “hell freezes over”.

We can hope (God, I hate to use that word now) this love affair will cool over time or we can press our opposition at every turn. I don’t have much hope and vote to press on and on and on, as long as  Barack Obama occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

President elect empty suit continues to make campaign speeches full of high sounding rhetoric  without saying anything other than to give himself an out regardless of the issue. He obviously knows what concerns the populace and he has perfected a method of telling us what’s wrong and what will happen if it’s not addressed. But what solutions has he put forward ….  nothing at all, yet everyone believes that he’s in tune with them!

So many people are looking for change and hoping he has solutions to the fear of the day that it’s no wonder he’s only spouting hope and change. He’s realized he doesn’t need specifics, he only needs the masses to identify with his message and identify they have. And we thought Willie was slick, well surprise, BHO is filing his cabinet with Clitonistas, including HRC herself, to me that says all we need to know about the promised change, to paraphrase “tell me it ain’t so”.

The collective

A modern day parable.

After Captain Picard was assimilated into the Borg collective he sent a message to the Enterprise – “I am Locutus… of Borg. Resistance… is futile. Your life as it has been… is over. From this time forward… you will service… us.” Well it didn’t come to happen and the Captain eventually returned to comand of the Enterprise. In later episodes the Borg were defeated.

You can see where this is going. A seemingly unstopable adversary with a mission to assimilate all cultures into a single minded entity, (read liberals) turning every species they encountered into Borg “drones” (liberals again) was eventually defeated by the aptly named “Enterprise” and the resourcefullness of free thinking individuals, and the Captain returned to command his ship.

 Borg=liberals –  liberals=Borg!

True words

Quote

“A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost She lowered her altitude
and spotted a man in a boat below.

She shouted to him, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would
meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied,

“You’re in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation
of 2346 f eet above sea level.

You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09
minutes west longitude.”

She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be a Republican.”

“I am,” replied the man. “How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically
correct , but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I’m still lost.

Frankly, you’ve not been much help to me.”

The man smiled and responded, “You must be a Democrat.”

“I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?”

“Well,” said the man, “you don’t know where you are or where you are going.

You’ve risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air.

You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to
solve your problem.

You’re in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, now
somehow, it’s my fault.”

What’s Obama up to?

Obama has put us off balance with his current statements on many issues and his choice of Clintonites and Washington insiders for his cabinet. Much of his latest talk has moderated from his position during the campaign, making me wonder just exactly is he up to. Many political analysts assume that he simply prostituted himself to left to get elected and then moved to the center to gain the support of moderates and he’s not really a socialist, just a politician.

I have a different take on his reasoning and a couple of other possibilities come to mind, the first thought being that he doesn’t have a clue about running the country. After promising to champion every leftist cause that backed his candidacy and knowing that doing so wouldn’t pass muster with the public, press or even the left leaning congress for that matter, he just doesn’t know where to go to keep his messianic halo intact. He’s so caught up in his God complex that he believes he can pretty much say and do anything.

Another possibility is that he is very smart and knows exactly where he wants to lead the Country. By injecting this imbalance, we are put off guard and he’s free to institute his socialist agenda while we’re trying to figure out what he’s really about.

Both scenarios spell big trouble for this country, we’re either about to have a most dangerous type of leader, one who will bask in his own glory while the country flounders in a rudderless ship, or one cunning enough to institute a socialist regime under our very noses.

Adolph Hitler fooled the Germans with an eerily similar populist feint and my greatest fear is that Barack Obama is ardent student of history and is indeed very smart.

A founder of the Weathermen terror group, Mark Rudd, said “President-elect Barack Obama is feigning a centrist position on some issues so he can ultimately push through a radical agenda,” and “Obama plays basketball. I’m not much of an athlete, barely know the game, but one thing I do know is that you have to be able to look like you’re doing one thing but do another. That’s why all these conservative appointments are important: the strategy is feint to the right, move left. Any other strategy invites sure defeat. It would be stupid to do otherwise in this environment.”

Former Weatherman terrorist Jeff Jones wrote – Obama is “really SMART.” “His centrist appointments are a smokescreen; they co-opt the moderate center, but he’s still the commander in chief. Even Lenin would be impressed!”

Connecticut Budget Woes

It’s about time the Governor’s office has finally realized that state spending and taxes are, and have been, out of control and has decided to look at the spending side of the budget. We should expect our legislature to champion spending cuts, union concessions, greatly reduced and affordable social programs and a reversal of the anti-business climate they have created. In any plan to address the budget crisis we simply cannot afford to do otherwise.

While it is too late to save the many thousands of skilled and high paying industrial jobs that have left the State due to high taxes, an oppressive business climate and too much regulation, I applaud Governor Rell’s recent epiphany. I anxiously await some real movement to scale down the government and would especially like to address the exorbitant salaries and benefits paid to State workers and the trend over the years to keep sweetening the pot with benefits unheard of in private industry.

As an example – I retired early, after 30 years of service, from a well-known International Company that began in Connecticut in 1866. Corporate headquarters remained in Connecticut even after being acquired by a larger corporation in 1968. Business considerations including our state business climate as well as the posture of the company’s local labor union led to the 2003 sale of the company and recent abandonment of Connecticut operations. The effects of Connecticut’s business climate and union considerations aside, I do not, and did not expect to, receive a living income from my former employer on retirement nor do I believe one is in order for our retiring state workers.

It is past time to renegotiate state union worker’s contracts and demand concessions to bring their compensation back to reality. Programs such as heart and hypertension, full retirement and gold plated medical benefits after ten years must be eliminated. Sick day policies and other special compensations must also be revisited and reduced or eliminated.

As taxpayers and voters we should expect no less.

Hope vs. Purpose

Washington Irving said: “Great minds have purpose; little minds have wishes (read hope).Little minds are subdued by misfortunes; great minds rise above them.”

Conservatives have a purpose rooted in the freedom to pursue personal achievement; the liberals wish and hope for some elusive utopia feeding off misfortune and a subdued public looking for a leader.

The Obamas are educating their children in private schools, while insisting in public education for those who cannot afford a private education, by opposing vouchers. The same labor unions that supported his candidacy are in the forefront of maintaining an education system that is indeed, failed, failed by the the left wing, their union coddling and their socialistic hopes. They brainwash our children into a political correctness and mindset that refuses to allow personal achievement, teaching them wish for a utopia where everyone is equal, except, of course, those who are in charge. The leaders being those who were taught purpose and personal achievement.

Our children have been taught to follow the leader and abandon any purpose. We must fight their brand of socialism with logic and purpose, and dump the PC garbage that is suffocating our youth.

The Big Three Bailout & Health Care

In a recent article by columnist David Broder, arguing in favor of national health care, he states that Barack Obama “could well argue the current plight of the Big Three automakers stems in part from from the burden (they) are carrying for the failures of our employer base health system.” And that the foreign auto makers are “operating in countries where the government and society pay the cost of health care.”

There is a serious credibility issue here; first off there is no proof that our health care system is broken. Ask any Canadian or other country’s citizen, who comes to the United States for treatment. They come here because they can’t get care or treatment in a timely fashion, or at all, in their home country. One Canadian friend of mine told me that Canada has a two tier health care system, the government paid health care and (thankfully) the care available here in the United States. Secondly a large portion of the “foreign companies” are building their cars here in the United States by American workers under our “broken” system. What he also doesn’t say is that the non-union foreign car companies labor costs are half of the Big Three’s labor cost, and the foreign car companies labor costs are still a third higher than the labor cost of the average private sector worker.

The problem is not with the health care system but the with the United Auto Workers Union leveraging the market share the Big Three once had into salaries and benefits unheard of in solvent and competitive industries. Equally to blame are the company managers who agreed to those inflated salaries and benefits while they were fat and happy, now they can no longer compete and want the taxpayer to bail them out.

Mr. Broder expects the government to relieve the Big Three of their burden by nationalizing health care. Will that solve Detroit’s problem, hardly, does anyone even believe that the UAW would give up their “gold-plated” coverage in favor of a national system? Think again.

Obama’s Cabinet Choices

We need to be proactive against Obama’s, stated, leftist agenda and also reactive to unforeseen events, like asking your Senators not to confirm unacceptable cabinet choices, like Eric Holder for attorney general.

Holder was intimately involved in the cesspool of the Clinton Pardons and was politically motivated. Quoting published accounts – “He has been a prominent advocate for liberal and progressive legal causes, supporting the restoration of voting rights for convicted felons and, most recently, signing on to a friend of the court brief embracing Washington’s strict ban on handguns. Holder was also a Clinton administration point man in defense of the highly controversial pardon of 16 convicted members of FALN. The group conducted a violent campaign with more than 100 bombings and other incidents from 1974 to 1983 in New York and Chicago. The attacks left six dead and roughly 70 injured.” He is a fawning Obama fan In his own words: “Loyalty is something I value an awful lot. And so my decision to support Barack was not necessarily a difficult one, but I had to be really moved by him.”

The AG has broad power to litigate on behalf of the government, the last person we need is one that will blindly use his office to advance Obama’s agenda. Obama has said that he does not believe in the Separation of powers constraint, and I believe he will use the courts to circumvent the legislature. He wants Eric Holder as his point man.

I have already written my Senators, they being comrade Chris Dodd and schmo Joe Liberman I expect they will vote to confirm, but we must speak out even in the face of certain rejection as we have no other recourse, until the next election.
